Recently, apart than playing with Instagram Reels, I was also away on a mini-getaway with my wife. Yeah, just us and left the kids at home for 4 days.
In fact, I didn’t even open up my laptop when I was there. Mostly doing nothing. Hang out for breakfast, lunch, dinner and drinks, go to the spa, listen to the band playing music, swimming in the pool, read a bit and nothing much. LOL
ANYWAY…So, if you haven’t hear from me much in the emails, it’s because I’ve been creating and publishing videos in Reels.
Here are just some random tips and lessons related to it…
1. Why Reels?
In the last shareholder’s meeting for Meta Inc (that’s Facebook), they’ve announced their biggest rival is TikTok. Then Mark Zuckerberg further emphasized to the Facebook team to focus on Reels. I would always ride on trends to have an extra advantage to win. If that’s Facebook’s direction, I’m following.
2. My Videos Can Be Improved
I know – there are many hacks I’m not using for videos to get more views and engagements. This include having a thumbnail that’s attractive, adding text to the video and even creating animations.
But I didn’t do any of those, they are very basic. Most of them were recorded from my phone and boom, published (with some music haha).
Because my mantra in business is this – It’s always better to move forward imperfectly, than slowing down waiting for “perfection”.
3. It’s Hard To Crack The Code
I’ve been playing around with the Reels to get the views externally (meaning, not from my current followers). After all, I’ve never been active in Instagram and only have a few hundred followers to start with.
Some of the videos get just less than 100 views but some managed to pass 1,000 views organically. Yet, I wasn’t able to repeat the result.
My hunch is this – I’m only creating content-driven videos, meaning, informative videos. If I want to tap into Instagram’s organic reach, I’ll need to make entertaining videos and likely, to show more personal stuff (like playing with your pets or something).
I only start playing with Reels in July, if you want to observe, I’m at instagram.com/officialpatricchan but ignore the previous earlier month’s videos.
So what’s your favourite social media platform? 🙂 Let me know.
