I’ve been doing internet marketing for a while now, as one of the pioneers in this awesome industry.
These are the 5 things that I felt marketers are doing wrongly…
1. They Focus On Making Money, Instead Of Adding Value
Instead of thinking how they can enrich their customer’s life or to solve their problems, they focus on how they can SELL to them.
This is why, you’ll hear marketers bragging about how well they can convert their offers and so on.
You see, converting an offer is just one piece of the puzzle.
Look – if you present an offer by saying, “give me $10 and I guarantee you’ll make $100”. Obviously, that’s a “good offer”.
But can it be fulfilled?
Therefore, I’m not impressed with a marketer who can make money, I’m only impressed with a marketer who can make money, keep the money and having their customers appreciating the marketer.
2. They Usually Don’t Think Of Long Term That Much
This is most often seen in software tools “created” by marketers. They see a good idea from a mainstream software and clone it. Then sell it at JVZoo for a one-time off low price (when this software is originally sold as a monthly subscription product).
Yes, they make a lot of money because it’s an “irresistible offer” but after a while, the customers will suffer because the marketer will just “move on”.
This is why, our product that’s software-driven is no longer offered as a one-time off pricing, as it’s not possible to sustain the business that way.
3. They Are Very Driven With Short-Term Profit
It’s almost the same as the earlier point, but this is more towards the mentality.
First of all, there’s nothing wrong with wanting to make “instant income” but it should be balanced with a long-term portfolio.
For me, as I’m building my “instant income” stuff, I’m already building my “retirement passive income” portfolio – while I’m still 38 years old.
There are 3 types of incomes I’ve taught in my book:
- Income Today – The active income that you need to pay your bills
- Income Tomorrow – The income that you’ll have for the next 6 to 12 months (where you can use this income to spend for things you like to buy)
- Income Millionaire – The income that will help you to “retire”
4. They Don’t Quite Understand The Power of “Offline”
Most marketers buy the dream of the “internet lifestyle”. Some even despise the whole thing of offline.
But whether you want to agree or not, true wealth is actually “offline”. Building real relationships lead to massive wealth. And if you don’t go offline, it’s rather hard to build trust, right?
For instance, I’ve been listening to Eric Worre recently. You can listen to some of his interviews with Bob Proctor, Jack Canfield, Grant Cardone, Brendon Burchard, etc at https://networkmarketingpro.com/podcast/. And O-M-G. People are actually making 7 figures in this industry, through the power of “building relationships”.
How about online startups? Ironically, they are very much built “offline”.
Truth is, many marketers actually made a fortune by selling offline workshops or coaching. A friend of mine, Russell Brunson, made over 3 million dollars from speaking “offline” in an event.
In 2019, I’ll be involved in several projects and yes, they involved offline.
5. Sometimes, They Are Do Things That Are Very Contradicting To Their Words
Many marketers pitch about having freedom. Yet, they don’t even have any extra time left in their life.
They pitch about making money online. Yet, sometimes, they don’t even have 2 pennies to rub together.
I mean, there are marketers who claimed how successful they are, or their companies are – but it doesn’t really “make sense”.
Why?
If you’re worth $30 million dollars or $500 million dollars, why are you working so hard to sell your courses or workshops?
Just so you know, I’m not referring to Gary Vaynerchuk. He is unique and I sort of understand his game plan. Anyway, he doesn’t do workshops, he’s a highly paid keynote speaker.
I mean, you don’t see Tim Ferriss or Noah Kagan selling their “how to” courses or running workshops, right?
Because they DON’T NEED TO. They’ll still do it, once in a while for whatever reasons they have.
For me, I’ll do seminar once or twice a year because I love teaching, it’s an ego thing, I like being appreciated for helping people and it’s nice to make some extra income from the training business.
Other than that, I’m just way too busy doing WHAT I AM GOOD AT (which is building online businesses and creating fortunes from the internet) and enjoying my personal life.
So, there you go. My 2 cents opinion. 🙂
